Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in our Solar System. Named after the Roman god of the sea, it is the fourth-largest planet by diameter and the third-largest by mass. Neptune is 17 times the mass of Earth and is slightly more massive than its near-twin Uranus, which is 15 Earth masses and not as dense. Discovered on September 23, 1846, Neptune was the first planet found by mathematical prediction rather than by empirical observation. This book studies Neptune including the Rings of Neptune, Great Dark Spot, Mariner Mark II, and Neptune Orbiter.

Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge. Less
