It was the seventies and the eighties, the Florida Keys, a time of insanity. But at the time, it was the norm. People that if you didn't know any better, you would never have suspected-or believed-that they were running drugs. Prominent people. Businesspeople. Politicians and public officials. Smuggling dope was a means to an end. A lot of people did it; others turned a blind eye to it-accepted it as a way of life-including a lot of the local cops. Some people stayed with it, and it eventually got them into trouble; others only smuggled long enough to be able to afford to start or buy a business, then they turned legit. People bought charter boats, gas stations, restaurants, campgrounds, and mom and pop motels. Present-day, two Islamorada men head out for a day of fishing, but instead of fish, they land a bale of cocaine.
