Developments in aquaculture are gaining considerable momentum in India through innovative and advanced technologies. However, we need to be cautious and conscious of the 'ecofriendly' and 'sustainable' approaches while we direct our energies on improved and enhanced yield through aquaculture. "Sustainable development" has come to stay and it will be accepted as a viable concept to eradicate poverty and to improve the quality of human life while living within the carrying capacity of supporting ecosystem. Needless to emphasis that it is paramount importance in aquaculture that it has to be practiced within the boundaries of its sustainable limits.
