Analyses of novels by Libu?e Moníková, Herta Müller, Emine Sevgi Özdamar and Feridun Zaimoglu shows how the languages and their foreign graphic and phonetic components work against the expectations of the reader and allow to see the foreign or alien in new perspectives. The study compares the notion of German literature of migrants (Migrationsliteratur) to literature of immigrant workers (Gastarbeiterliteratur) and literature of exile (German Exilliteratur).
