The original campus was built in the decades leading up to the Civil War and most was burned down during the battles in the South. Alabama's campus today is a reflection of the reconstruction era of the U.S. following the Civil War and contemporary buildings. As a result, several schools of architecture are represented on campus. This book looks at how history has shaped the architecture of Alabama's campus, what styles are most prominent and the sites that are worth a visit, including the President's Mansion, the Gorgas-Manly Historic District, the University of Alabama Observatory and more. Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added.
