An electronic book is a text- and image-based publication in digital form produced on, published by, and readable on computers or other digital devices." Sometimes the equivalent of a conventional printed book, e-books can also be born digital. E-books are usually read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-Readers or e-book devices. Personal computers and some cell phones can also be used to read e-books. There is a variety of e-book formats used to create and publish e-books. A writer or publisher has many options when it comes to choosing a format for production. Every format has its proponents and champions, and debates over which format is best can become intense. This book studies the concept of electronic books including FictionBook, plain text, Bookeen, Eslick, Bookglutton, FeedBooks, and WebCite.
Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge.
