Excerpt from F nelon: His Life and Works
This Prelate was a tall, thin man, well-made, with a large nose, eyes whence fire and wit issued like a torrent, and a countenance such as I have never seen in any other person, and which, though seen but once, could never be forgotten. It combined everything, yet its contrasts did not conflict. It possessed gravity and courtesy, solemnity and gaiety; it was equally expressive of the learned man, the Bishop, and the aristocrat: but what predominated in his face, as indeed in his whole person, was thought, intellect, grace, propriety, and above all nobility. One had to make an effort to cease looking at him.
