Written between 2006 and 2012, FOREVER RETICENT is a collection of over 150 poems by Ethan Zachery Scott. Ranging from love, sex, nature, and politics, this collection is essentially the author’s diary for all to read. “Through adversity to the stars…those are the words that I live by. This strong and firm phrase has guided me through both the rises and the falls of my life. For I, just as everyone before me and after me, have endured a life of both pain and pleasure. There was a point in my young life when darkness and confusion shrouded what I felt was my future. In all truthfulness, I was lost. I knew so much about myself internally, but struggled to articulate a single sentence to express how I was feeling. At the age of fifteen, I finally hit a turning point that dramatically changed my life: I took pen to paper. There, on my bedroom floor I would get lost in the magic of music and dimly dancing lights. With each short and uncertain phrase I wrote, I began to feel a weight lifted from my heart.As time passed, my words grew stronger and clearer – clearer to me, anyway. It became the only way I could truly document and understand the events I witnessed and the thoughts I experienced. Whether it be feast or famine, only written word permits my soul to admit reality. Because of this, releasing this collection of poetry, prose, recount, and reform is as terrifying as it is cleansing. I’ve always written for myself, and myself only, but with the secret wish for others to peer in. So here is my soul, bared for all to see. It is, to my best ability, the most honest form of my speech. To ask for more clarity beyond these words, I shall be Forever Reticent.
