During the late 1970s, 1980s, and into the 1990s, South Florida became the primary point of entry for thousands of pounds of marijuana and cocaine into the United States, controlled by the Colombian drug cartels. The influx of cash created an inbalance in the Florida economy along with the violence to control the cash. During the late 1970s into the early 1980s, the drug-related homicides went from 349 per year to 621, with law enforcement outgunned ten to one.

It was a beautiful South Florida day with palm trees waving in the cool ocean breeze with a clear blue sky--a typical spring day. TJ, a young, dedicated police officer on his way to work his normal patrol shift, had no idea what that day or the next several years would bring.
