Simon is a charming, smart writer about to make a change in his career. Ellen is a shy, quiet bookworm starting University. The two, though seemingly complete opposites, are drawn to one another. As they spend more and more time together they become friends, eventually falling in love. There's just one problem: Simon is Ellen's creative writing professor. Over the four years she is his student, the two dance around obstacles: rumors about their relationship, dealing with the new bonds they form with others, and figuring out how to stay part of each other's lives. Neither want to lose the other, but neither are willing to confess how they really feel. At least not until the perfect moment. A moment that constantly seems out of their grasp. A prequel to An Altered Ending, this is the story of how two people became so close when they shouldn't have been, and what kept them apart.
