The Breathtaker (Warner hardcover, 0-446-53139-1, 11/03), was named a Today show Book Club selection by Jacquelyn Mitchard in January 2004, has netted close to 50,000 copies, and won raves in numerous publications, including Publishers Weekly, New York Times Book Review, Chicago Tribune, and Library Journal, among others.
- Warner Bros. -based John Wells Productions (White Oleander, The Honest Thief) has obtained the screen rights to The Breathtaker. Blanchard's debut novel, Darkness Peering (Bantam Dell, 1999), has been optioned by Propaganda Films for film development.
- Alice Blanchard's short story collection, The Stuntman's Daughter (University of North Texas Press, 1996), called "breathtaking" by Publishers Weekly, was awarded the Katherine Anne Porter Prize for fiction. Her fiction has appeared in numerous prestigious literary quarterlies.
