He skipped rocks in river streams and ran away to Johannesburg to work in the mines before going to law school.Trouble by apartheid and injustice, Mandela became a leader in the African National Congress until the government arrested him. He was imprisoned for 27 1/2 years. After his release in 1990, he helped write a new constitution and was elected President of South Africa. Libby Hughes traces the journey in Nelson Mandela.
