Mark Diederichsen's first oil painting lessons came at the age of eight, when his grandmother gave him a set of oil paints for his birthday (she, in turn, had studied with the well known early California painters Alfred Mitchell and Olaf Wieghorst). Further studies for Mark Diederichsen was at school in Reno, Nevada with Esteban Valle.
After a 30 year career in advertising, mostly as an art director and some illustrating, he returned to fine art.
