Although the programming of this LP is (in Folkways' tradition) pretty random, most of the selections are somewhat rare. Of particular interest are a couple of jazz-oriented {|Paul Whiteman|} items from 1935 and performances by {|Phil Harris|}'s Orchestra, {|Gene Kardos|}, {|Ray McKinley|}, {|Bobby Byrne|}, {|Phil Napoleon|} (the only selection from the 1920s), {|The Hudson-Delange Orchestra|} and {|Frank Tanner|}. While the performances of {|Pete Brown|} and {|Gene Krupa|} are a bit familiar (and one would prefer to get these swinging recordings in more coherent form), this LP should be sought after by swing collectors. ~ Scott Yanow Less
