Like any ranking book, it is as idiosyncratic as its author, so few readers are likely to agree completely with his choices. On the other hand, they will appreciate the thoughtfulness the author puts into the list, particularly given his unique perspective. The author also promotes some lesser known performers, singles out each artist''s best works, and identifies key films available on DVD.
