Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music. Ballads were particularly characteristic of British and Irish popular poetry and song from the later medieval period until the 19th century and used extensively across Europe and later North America, Australia and North Africa. Many ballads were written and sold as single sheet broadsides. This form was often used by poets and composers from the 18th century onwards to produce lyrical ballads. This book studies the ballad including ballad stanzas, refrains, a list of child ballads, chapbooks, and the Beggar's opera. Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge.
