There are many reasons to pretend to be someone else, including the true belief that we are in fact someone other than ourselves via delusion or illness.

This book focuses on the concept of pretenders in royal succession. Pretenders are claimants to an abolished throne or to a throne already occupied by somebody else, even if they are not actively making a legitimate claim on the particular royal throne. There are, however, false pretenders who make claims that are unsubstantiated. Also included are political decoys used throughout history for the safety of leaders or to "bring back to life" someone who has passed away but whose death is deemed to have severe political consequences.

Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge. Less
