Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Fad diets are diets that claim weight loss by mechanisms other than calorie restriction. Many forms of food faddism and fad diets are supported by pseudo-scientific claims. Fad diets claim to be scientific but do not follow the scientific method in establishing their validity. Among the scientific shortcomings of the claims made in support of fad diets: not being open to revisions, whereas real science is; and observations that prompt explanations are used as evidence of the validity of the explanation. The book takes a look at the several types of fad diets including Atkins Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet, Grapefruit Diet, Low Fat Diet, Nutrisystem, South Beach Diet, Fit for Life, Fruitarianism, Inedia, Master Cleanse, and Paleolithic diet. Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge.
