The Fusoco Company is growing more and more rich, and Eric is now an important personage, although he is always trying to conceal he is the company's main shareholder. Napoleon, who is now First Consul, charges him to transport goods from Britain, as France needs them but has laid an embargo. Eric cannot refuse his service to the most powerful man in France, who is said to become Emperor. In exchange for his favour, Bonaparte promises him high quality produce and confers the title of Senator and the Legion of Honour on him. Paris is now an unsafe city, as the First Consul lives in fear of aggressions and attempts to his life, so the streets are full of soldiers standing at check points. The Fusoco's clippers continue to inflict humiliating defeats to any British ship that dares to attack them. The company has now a new fine brig named Clipper Richmond but her first crossing turns out unlucky; as she is about to enter the Mediterranean back from America with Henri, Virginie and little Pauline aboard, she is confiscated by the British fleet and taken to Faro, Portugal. As they show non interest for the freight, is it clear they are going to demand Clipper Virginia and her formidable cannons as a ransom. This drives Eric furious, so he incites his friends to go and try to recapture their brig. Two important characters will take part in this new daring adventure: Jean Richet, a skillful Breton captain, and Francois Schoelcher, an expert in gunpowder and explosives. They plan to place charges under the British guns in the fort of Faro and to get on the brig stealthy by night. That is a very risky operation, but they succeed in recapturing their brig.
