Casanova was first known for having escaped from a notorious Ventian prison and he managed through a long and colorful life to meet many a famous figure and to frequent many a glittering circle. It is both the memoir and autobiography of Giacomo Casanova, a famous 18th century Italian adventurer. Despite its title, the book covers Casanova's life only through 1774. Casanova traveled a great deal - not always willingly - and his memoirs give a rich and varied portrait of Paris, Venice, London, Moscow and other European locales, providing glimpses of Voltaire, Mozart and Goethe along the way.
