Walter de la Mare (1873-1956) was an English poet, short story writer and novelist, best remembered for his works for children, and his poem 'The Listeners.' He composed many short-story collections, though folkloric tales were a particular fascination. The text is accompanied by the drawings of A. H. Watson (1896-1984); a graceful and unique illustrator.
