This study examines the relevancy of US Air Force (USAF) IO doctrine, organization and training to accomplishing the Air Force's missions. This study evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of USAF IO doctrine as compared to joint doctrine and current thoughts being considered by civilian theorist and foreign nations. The discussion provides the background for answering the primary thesis research question: Is Air Force IO doctrine, organization and training relevant in today's IO environment? To adequately analyze the answer to this question, the author provides a definition of relevancy, and defines the elements that constitute the current IO environment. These definitions provide the framework upon which to evaluate the USAF's efforts in developing IO doctrine, training and organization. IO provide the edge the US military needs to counter the threat of cyberwarfare, weapons of mass destruction, and terrorism. The USAF must expand its capability to defend its information and information systems while simultaneously developing air power tools that contribute to the Joint Force Commander's theater IO objectives. Incorporating IO into USAF operations is the only way to maintain its edge in today's environment. Less
