Life was good for the boy-king, until he had to grow up. One cannot help but laugh at the little boy's antics, as he struggles to maintain his identity among five older siblings. As a king, the little boy has to grapple with problems of sibling rivalry, economic injustice and racism. When I Was King is based on true incidents that occurred in the life of this book's author, as he grew up in the North Florida panhandle.
