The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, an American author and prominent feminist social reformer. First published in 1892 and Gilman's most famous work, It is a chilling tale that follows an unnamed woman, the narrator, who is suffering from a nervous condition. She and her husband, John, rent a country house for the summer, where she is confined to a room with yellow wallpaper. As the weeks pass, the narrator becomes increasingly obsessed with the patterns and imagery of the wallpaper, causing her to believe a woman is trapped behind it.
