Feminist theory emerged from these feminist movements and includes general theories and theories about the origins of inequality, and, in some cases, about the social construction of sex and gender, in a variety of disciplines. Feminism has nothing whatsoever to do with being "feminine," that is, possessing qualities which are natural to womanhood. Since World War II, feminism has been a philosophy which, for all practical purposes, may be considered the same thing as the "Women's Liberation Movement." The largest and most influential feminist political organization is the "National Organization for Women" (NOW), founded in 1965 by Betty Friedan. In the contemporary cry of feminist theory for modernity in thought, we often tend to dismiss our major traditional texts in one categorical sweep. This is hardly fair. To argue for my protest, we propose to confine myself to just one of such texts, namely, Manusmrti. This book provides deep insight to various dimensions of issues in this subject.
