The seeds ofthe present Indian Administrative system, to a great extent, are rooted in the history of India under the British rule. The forces of the British Indian History left a lasting imprint on the now revailing Indian Administrative Structure. India is a democracy. Before its independence its future leaders chose the liberal democratic system as the administration system of India. On 26/01/1950, India declared itself as Republic. On this day the Constitution of India came into force. Today India is a federation of 28 states and 7 union territories and formally this federation is known as a Union. The Indian Administrative Service is the administrative civil service of the Government of India. Indian Administrative Service officers hold key positions in the Union Government, State governments and Public Sector Undertakings. The Administrative Service is one of the three All India Services. The book has been designed so that it may be used by top management, department management, executive, executive aspirant, accountant, teacher, student of business and management and, indeed, all those concerned with the conduct of business.
