In the early years of the twenty-first century, many older gay men, having survived a devastating pandemic (AIDS), may have found themselves dealing with – not necessarily a sense of survivor guilt, but rather a sense of quandary: Why am I here? Why did I survive?This book is the author's attempt to deal with both that guilt and those quandaries.Here is the story of two gay men, New York theater professionals living in the epicenter of AIDS, which is decimating their community. Harold and James live together in a mutually beneficial, monogamous, HIV-negative and loving relationship for almost fifteen years. On a rainy April Fools' Day, that love is challenged with the diagnosis of a fatal illness, which is not AIDS related. This book details feeling lost while growing up in the Midwest, then finding love and losing love, yetrealizing there are many wonderful things to experience in dire situations; as well as the ironies and absurdities of an illness that was shared by Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain.
