The ways of love are mysterious and profound, and yet also inexpressibly beautiful. Words will always be inadequate to express those deep inner surging of the heart in its silence before God, and yet this does not mean that the desire to communicate is not ceaselessly born within this place. Rather, words are conceived in silence and speak from silence, while directing one into silence anew, where the ineffable touch of God says more than any words can express. This book, born from my own prayer before God, my own silent holding of those entrusted to me-just as he, our loving Father, first holds me-seeks to communicate, however imperfectly, a touch of that unspeakable Love that never ceases to speak. My only hope is that, through what I have expressed here, you may find the desire-and the confidence!-to draw near to the One who tenderly invites you to encounter him in the most intimate space. I pray that you may understand and feel more deeply his desire for your happiness and well-being, and for that flowering playfulness in the home of his embrace that is victorious over all darkness and suffering, a foretaste of the perfect intimacy of eternity in which, in the heart of the Trinity, word and silence become one in everlasting communion.
