The New Testament has been treated in a manner somewhat different to that adopted in regard to the Books of the Old Testament. The object has been, to sketch out the earthly Life of our Blessed Lord, and to draw attention to a few important points. It was obviously impossible to dwell particularly upon the details of every Miracle, Parable, and Conversation, recorded by the Evangelists. Nor was such a course necessary. The language of the Gospels is so simple and clear, that details are better read from Holy Writ itself. That this volume may lead the young to a reverent study of our Saviour’s character, and an earnest endeavour to “follow the blessed steps of His most Holy Life,” is the earnest prayer of the Author.Mary Ross November, 1871.Part 1CH1 John the Baptist BornCH2 Birth of Jesus ChristCH3 Flight into EgyptCH4 The InnocentsCH5 Baptism of JesusCH6 Jesus Tempted of the DevilCH7 The First MiracleCH8 Nicodemus Comes by Night to JesusCH9 John Put into PrisonCH10 Calling of Simon & OthersCH11 The Leper HealedCH12 Calling of MatthewCH13 The Pharisees’ Pretended Zeal for the SabbathCH14 The Apostles ChosenCH15 Jesus in Simon’s HouseCH16 Stilling the Tempest, etc.CH17 Death of John the BaptistCH18 The Woman of TyreCH19 The TransfigurationCH20 Jesus Goes to the Feast of TabernaclesCH21 Return of the SeventyCH22 The Lord’s PrayerCH23 Healing of the Man Born BlindCH24 Jesus’s Last Journey to JerusalemCH25 Zacchæus & LazarusCH26 Jesus in the House of Simon the LeperCH27 Christ’s Entry into JerusalemCH28 The Voice from HeavenCH29 Discourses on the TuesdayCH30 Wednesday--Judas Covenants to Betray JesusCH31 Mode of Celebrating the PassoverCH32 The Last SupperCH33 Jesus in the Garden of GethsemaneCH34 Jesus BetrayedCH35 Jesus Taken before Annas & CaiaphasCH36 Jesus Condemned by CaiaphasCH37 Peter’s Third DenialCH38 Jesus Sent by Pilate to HerodCH39 Jesus CondemnedCH40 Jesus Condemned by PilateCH41 Jesus CrucifiedCH42 Christ on the CrossCH43 Jesus DiesCH44 Jesus Rises from the SepulchreCH45 Christ Appears to Mary MagdaleneCH46 Jesus Appears to the DisciplesCH47 Unbelief of ThomasCH48 Jesus Taken into HeavenPart 2CH1 The Gift of the Holy GhostCH2 The Lame Man Healed by Peter & JohnCH3 Ananias & SapphiraCH4 Appointment of DeaconsCH5 The First Martyr, StephenCH6 Conversion of SaulCH7 Saul Joins the Church at JerusalemCH8 Peter & CorneliusCH9 Peter Delivered from PrisonCH10 Saul & Barnabas Called to Preach to the GentilesCH11 Saul’s Name Changed to PaulCH12 St. Paul’s First Apostolic JourneyCH13 Decision of the Church as to Observing the Mosaical LawCH14 Paul & Silas at PhilippiCH15 St. Paul Leaves PhilippiCH16.
