Tour of Great Dams is a closed loop from hut to hut between Switzerland and Italy near some of the most impressive dams in the Alps that can be hiked in six, seven or eight days. Easily accessible, well marked and maintained, this is an excellent option for a hiking trip in the Alps away from the crowds in the mainstream routes. Tour of Great Dams takes the hiker over a glacier and several mountain passes, to the shores of four extensive lakes in two different countries and close to some astounding waterfalls. Although not one of the most difficult or demanding hiking tours in the Alps, some mountain paths, a glaclier and some points over 3.000 metres are encountered along the way. For hikers interested in a longer trip, this trek can be combined with Tour of Combins, Tour of Matterhorn or Haute Route.
