A few years ago, the Count of Ludres, this remarkable scholar, this charming spirit, of which all scholars deplore the loss, pointed out to us the interest of writing an intimate history of the court of Lorraine during the reign King Stanislas. It is this work that we are now putting before the public eye. We have described as best we can the manners of this little court, simple and good-natured, at the same time so gay and so gallant; but at the last moment a scruple comes to our minds: will not some of our readers be alarmed by some rather lively stories, or a few rather scabrous passages?
