more than forty years ago this Poem came to light ; and even though its large edition was soon sold out by the public, it has not been reprinted. Vicissitudes of the life of the author and vicissitudes of the Poem itself, whose third volume was constantly announced although it never came to be written, were the cause of the most extensive work of Zorrilla, and in which he cherished greater effort, is today a rare book, almost unknown of the current generation.
The widow of the great poet wished to reprint [Pg 8] the beautiful verses of Granada , in memory of her loving husband and as a legacy he left for the help of a large family; but his attempt would have been sterile without the noble contest of which the interested one gives reason more ahead. Less
