The Purpose is the story about two lonely souls, who over generations are inexplicably drawn together. The closer in proximity, spiritually and physically they inch together, the more the forces of evil conspire to pry them apart. Each isolated soul is unaware of its purpose, yet both esoterically understand the subtleties of the forces that repel them. Both inherently are aware that hate is caused by the absence of love and that darkness is simply the absence of light. The story: The purposeInterspersed within the novel, two fictional narratives connect and intertwine through historical fact and the teachings of the Gra, a great Lithuanian sage who lived in the 1700s. His thoughts are captured in writing by a good samaritan who gives him shelter during a storm in exchange for his wisdom. They spend the night in animated conversation, drinking and eating as the Gra expresses his ideas about the concept of lonely souls and the condition of being in love, while the good samaritan pens it all in a little book. In the WW2 narrative, we follow Davie, a downed American pilot who is rescued by Leah the leader of a band of partisans, who happens to be the daughter of the town rabbi. The two are on the run in the forests of Panerai in the outskirts of Vilnius as they are pursued by Algimantas Lutikis, leader of the SS sanctioned the Ypatingas Burys, a Lithuanian death squad. Jurgi is Leah's childhood friend whom she has always protected. Together they are bonded through a secret handwritten book they had found together, but her affections wonder to the adventurous, but forbidden American, much to the distress of Jurgi, who would do anything to have Leah to himself. The modern day narrative begins in Cape Town. We follow Ravi an ex-mossad assassin, who is now a practicing rabbi and bartmitzvah teacher. It is on the first day of meeting his new student that he discovers a small handwritten book on the shelf. Against his nature, he feels compelled to to borrow the book without asking and is almost caught in the act by Chanti, a Catholic au pair and budding artist. Fighting forbidden desires, outside suitors, and their own inner battles Ravi and Chanti are forced to face their deepest fears alone when the story unfolds in modern day Vilnius where Algimantas Lutikis son seeks revenge. Can the secrets of the Gra be revealed to untangle the web of betrayal driven by hate and revenge? What is so special about lonely souls, and can the two lonely souls individually overcome the very nature of loneliness that causes them each to be isolated and reach out over the precipice of their own comfort and connect with each other before time runs out?The Purpose is a historic love mystery of mystical proportions that ultimately will touch the hearts of those who have ever been perplexed by the purpose of love and its forbidden fruit.
