An old opera house, a dark mansion, and good old fashioned clues, suspects, and detective work: Cold Blood, and Good Theater, In Old Time Manitowoc takes the reader on a wonderful and nostalgically satisfying tour of crime solving in the days before DNA and high tech police equipment. In 1895, the booming city of Manitowoc, WI kept a dark secret. A murder of two prominent citizens ten years before jailed an innocent man while the real killer roamed free. For almost a decade, the otherwise good and hardworking townspeople suppressed the truth while wrestling with the question: How long could their otherwise fine city hide its shameful face of guilt?Enter a mysterious play director, along with a return engagement of the 'Yankee Players'-a performance troupe reprising their performance at the Manitowoc Opera House during the time of the murders. Young newspaper reporter Gottlieb Mueller, from the neighboring town of Sheboygan, and a guest cast member of the Yankee Players, wonders: Why weren't any members of the 'Players' questioned about the murders before they left town a decade ago? Just who is this mysterious director, who came all the way from London, England to direct the play? Finally: Could one of the cast members be the killer-trapped into returning to Manitowoc to meet justice?'Cold Blood' winds and twists its way through gas lit streets, a shuttered mansion, and the suppressed dread of a fearful population to find a solution that only good old fashioned leg work and creative pre-technology detective work could produce.
